LONDON 2012 Olympian John Joe Nevin has been named in the Paris United squad for their crucial clash with Ken Egan’s and Con Sheehan’s Leipzig Leopards in the World Series of Boxing on Friday night.

Both sides meet over five bouts in Paris and the winner will be guaranteed qualification for the WSB Team Championships quarter-finals.

Neither Egan, who has a hand injury, or Sheehan are included in the Leopards team for Friday, while World number four Nevin meets Rashid Kassem.

The Cavan BC bantamweight has already recorded a unanimous decision over the Dane this season and wants to do the double at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin

“Friday’s match is crucial for both sides if we want to make the play-offs, although we will have one match still left against Beijing after Friday, said Nevin. “I beat him (Kassem) before so he’ll be out for revenge on Friday night.”

Nevin, who became the first Irish male boxer to win two-medals at World Championships level last year, was full of praise for Willie McLaughlin.

The Donegal man has won three fights in the WSB this season to help Milano Thunder qualify for the last-eight.

“Fair play to Willie. He’s boxed incredibly well for what is a very strong Italian side this season and he’s really made an impression.”
