Football fans catered for in Limerick

Promoter Brian Peters has revealed that the Republic of Irelands crucial World Cup play-off clash with France in Dublin will be shown live on big screens at the University Arena in Limerick before Andy Lees homecoming bout against Affif Belghecham on Saturday night.

Peters did the same thing at the O2 in Dublin earlier this year with the Irish rugby teams Grand Slam-clinching victory over Wales, which took place on the same night as Bernard Dunnes historic world title showdown with Ricardo Cordoba.

“With Limerick being such a sports mad city we didnt want people having to choose between Andys fight and the Ireland match so the game will be live on the big screens so that people dont miss out on any of the action,” he explained.

“Hopefully it will be just like that Saturday back in March when Ireland won the Grand Slam and Bernard won the world title. I dont think anyone who was at The O2 will ever forget that night so hopefully Andy and the Irish team can make it another night to remember on the 14th.”

Peters, who also confirmed that there will be a full bar and food court in operation on the night, believes that Lee is unlikely to have things all his own way against European Union champion Belghecham.

“Its going to be a very hard nights work for Andy, the Meath promoter admitted. “Belghecham is rated ahead of him in both the World and the European ratings and he is the current European Union and French Champion so you cannot disregard that kind of pedigree.

“Hes a very capable fighter and hes in the best form of his career right now but home advantage is always crucial and Andy will be a very hard man to beat in Limerick.”

Tickets for the Yanjing Fight Night priced from 40 are available from Ticketmaster (phone 0818 719 300 or visit ticketmaster.ie), The George Boutique Hotel in Limerick and all usual outlets.
