Ken Egan and Con Sheehan will be aiming to help the Leipzig Leopards put some clear daylight between them and the Baku Fires at the top of Group B in the World Series of Boxing this weekend.

The Irish duo have been named in the Leopards team to meet Baku Fires in a top-of-the-table clash in Baku Azerbaijan on Saturday.

Both sides are locked on nine points at the summit of Group B, the Leopards commanding top slot on bout differences, boxing’s equivalent of goal difference.

Egan, who will be making his debut for the German side, is in against Azerbaijani light-heavyweight Magomedau Ramazan at the Olympic Sports Centre in the Azeri capital.

Tipperary super-heavyweight Sheehan, who has won one bout for the Leopards this season, meets Abdullayev Abdulkadir, also of Azerbaijan.

“This is my first fight in the WSB since last season and I’m looking forward to getting in there and putting in a good performance. It will be nice to get five rounds under my belt, ” said Egan.

Germany’s Eugen Burhard will line out for the Leopards at lightweight. Egan, Sheehan and Burhard secured two gold medals and one bronze medal between them – the Irish duo claiming double gold – at the recent Olympic Test Event in London.

Elsewhere in the WSB, Belfast’s Patrick Gallagher will be in action versus Sean Turner’s and Jason Quigley’s Los Angeles Matadors when his Mumbai Fighters side host LA in India on Friday.

Gallagher will face Russell Lamour at middleweight.
