World Champion hints at Jono Carroll title defence
TJ Doheny was crowned a world champ yesterday, Paddy Barnes looks to do so tomorrow, and now Jono Carroll could be close to fighting for a major title.
The Dublin super featherweight last week called out new IBF 130lbs champ Tevin Farmer [26(5)-4(2)-1] and the pair have exchanged words over Twitter.

Talk of a potential fight has been widespread on social media among fans and fight figures alike and a clash now looks likelier than ever.
Yesterday the Philadelphia fighter, who is promoted by Lou DiBella, teased that a fight with ‘King Kong’ Carroll could be next.
You might be getting what you ask for @jono_carroll 😅

26-year-old Carroll [16(3)-0] was, unsurprisingly, agreeable and quickly hit the champion back.

Following an IBF Inter-Continental win and defence versus Humberto De Santiago and Declan Geraghty respectively, Carroll has risen to #5 in the IBF’s rankings. This makes him the third-highest ranked fighter at super featherweight as the top two slots are not filled. Above Carroll are former European champions Guillaume Frenois and Devis Boschiero.
The IBF rankings also feature another Irish fighter in Belfast’s European champion James Tennyson [22(18)-2(2)] who is placed at #7 (fifth-highest).
‘American Idol’ Farmer won the vacant belt earlier this month with a dominant points win over Aussie veteran Billy Dib in Sydney.
The 28-year-old American is now set for a voluntary defence, and has a to-be-announced fight date already set, and a battle of the southpaws with the immensely marketable Carroll is one which would look to make sense.
