Wilton to fight rising Matchroom star for British title

Luke Wilton will challenge for the British flyweight title before April is out.

The British Board have ordered the bout between the Belfast manager and young English prospect Charlie Edwards.

If terms are not agreed between the pair before January 13th, the bout will go to purse bids, but considering Edwards is a Matchroom fighter it seems most likely Wilton will travel and challenge for the vacant strap on an Eddie Hearn Sky Sports broadcast card.

Wilton, who has British title previous having fought Kevin Satchell for the belt in a highly entertaining 2013 clash, seemed on course to fight Ian Butcher of Scotland for the prestigious strap last year, but the British Board last week mandated a fight with Edwards.

The 21 year old former European medalist is just six fights into his pro career, but is a touted prospect. In saying that, however he hasn’t faced anyone of Wilton’s level or experience as of yet.
