Weekend Round Up: Conlan, Tims, McDonagh and Waldron
Jamie Conlan moved closer to a shot at British flyweight Champion Paul Edwards with a six round points win on Saturday night.
The Belfast fighter defeated Elemir Rafael on the under card of David Price’s win over John McDermott and hopes his shut out performance will prompt Frank Maloney to put him in against Chris Edwards.
“I’ve been told by Maloney that I could fight Chris Edwards in the summer so if he does that then I’ll be more than happy.”
Elsewhere Ian Tims put in a valiant display in his EU Cruiserweight title fight with Juho
Haapoja on the same night. However despite raising his profile and credentials the Tank failed to lift the title suffering a 113-115, 113-115, 112-116 reverse.
One Irish fighter who did get his hands on a title over the weekend was Paddy McDonnagh.
The Westmeath pugilist strapped the vacant Irish Light heavyweight title around his waist after defeating John Waldron 99-91 in England.
