Weekend Preview: September 23rd-24th
It looks like it will be a huge weekend for Irish boxing, with many fighters scheduled to appear across the water.
Starting us off on Friday night at the Civic Hall in Grays, Irish Tommy Carter [1(0)-2(0)] makes the step up to six rounds for the first time. The middleweight of Drogheda descent has been brought in to face unbeaten prospect Tey Lynn Jones.
Saturday sees a card of huge Irish interest in Birmingham at the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre. Belfast light welterweight Tyrone McKenna [10(3)-0-1], new MGM super featherweight signing Jono Carroll [10(1)-0], and Team Fury Tipp heavyweight Con Sheehan [1(0)-0] are all in action against to-be-confirmed opposition.
In Spain, Sean ‘Big Sexy’ Turner [7(5)-0] will look to get on the board for 2016 when he takes on Valeri Semiskur in Malaga.
On the Anthony Crolla-Jorge Linares undercard at the Manchester Arena there is a spot for light heavyweight Liam Conroy [10(3)-3(1)-1]. The Galway descendant had been due to face Tomi Tatham in a British title eliminator, but injury to Tatham has seen the bout shelved. Barrow’s Conroy remains on the card and will face Baptiste Castegnaro.
At the York Hall in London, young welterweight Dan Keenan [2(0)-0] is in action against Teodor Boyadjiev, while lightweight Tom McGinley [0-1(0)] will search for a maiden victory against a to-be-confirmed foe.
