‘We will do everything we can to enforce our legal rights around that fight’- Hearn claims Serrano is tied into ‘binding contract’

Eddie Hearn expects announce Amanda Serrano has Katie Taylor’s August 22 opponent in due course.

The New York based Puerto Rican was one of the many fighters fight fans had expected to see on the Fight Camp list, revealed by the Matchroom boss on Friday gone.

However, The nine time world champion’s name wasn’t read out alongside Taylor’s and there were genuine concerns the hugely anticipated clash would be further put back.

Those concerns were fueled by the fact Team Serrano had, one week previous, said they wouldn’t be fighting.

Manager and coach Jordan Maldonado citing a drop in purse as the reason a fight agreed for May 2 and July 4 wouldn’t be taking place in August.

However, Hearn claims there is a ‘binding contract’ in place and suggests the will be announced soon.

“We have a signed and binding contract with Amanda Serrano to fight Katie Taylor,” Hearn said.

“In fact, we gave her a warm-up fight in January in Miami, which I didn’t really want to give her and I gave her a shot at a vacant title before that against Heather Hardy and before that I also gave her a shot at a vacant title to make sure she fought Katie Taylor.

“She was in for May 22 and we hoped we might be able to reschedule it by July,” he adds before addressing Team Serrano’s pay cut claims.

“There were all kinds of rumours that she had been offered reduced purses, but we never made Lou DiBella [Serrano’s promoter] one offer of a reduced purse for this fight.

“Last week we wrote to them and said August 22 is the date for the fight. There have been a few rumblings in the camp and we have told her she is under contract – ‘we have a binding contract that you have signed personally for this fight’. There is no smaller purse, there is no controversy over what is happening. We expect her to accept the fight.”

While Matchroom expect to make the massive clash they have an equally mouthwatering back up in mind.

A rematch with Belgian’s Delfine Persoon is plan B.

“I have also reached out to Delfine Persoon, made them a couple of offers yesterday, which I think would make a great replacement fight. She has a mandatory with Miriam Gutierrez, from Spain, the mandatory for the WBA interim title, who is 13-0. But Serrano is the fight we want and we will do everything we can to enforce out legal rights around that fight.”
