WATCH: Phil Sutcliffe Jr v Josh Leather – FULL FIGHT

Phil Sutcliffe Jr [13(8)-2(1)] fell to the second defeat of his career last night in Leeds under controversial circumstances

The Crumlin light welter was stopped standing in the sixth round of his IBF East/West European title fight with Josh Leather [12(6)-0] at the First Direct Arena, live on BT Sport.

Referee Howard Foster’s decision to halt the bout – a split second after Sutcliffe had landed a shot and then tied up Leather – would lead to widespread criticism.

Sutcliffe’s dignified reaction however won plaudits for the Irishman.
