WATCH: Katie Taylor gives talented 11 year old the chance to show her skills at public workout
It’s always been about more than just personal achievement tor Katie Taylor [5(3)-0].
The 2012 Olympic gold medalist is blazing a trail in the pro ranks at the minute, but the desire to elevate women’s boxing remains a goal alongside, if not above, her targets of world titles.
The Wicklow lightweight has a keen interest, an investment almost, in the sport as a whole and when she recognised one of her American fans in the crowd at her public workout yesterday she made a heart-warming gesture.
11 year old New Yorker Jesselyn Silva has wowed followers on Instagram with her burgeoning boxing talents and an indie movie about the 2024 Olympic hopeful is also in the works.
Taylor has followed Silva’s progress and, when she spotted the youngster at the public workout ahead of her U.S. debut in Brooklyn, the Bray boxer invited ‘JessZilla’ to the stage.
The boxing legend, who many feel helped women’s boxing gain it’s Olympic status, laced her gloves on Silva and gave the kid an opportunity to wow the crowd with a round on the pads with trainer Ross Enamait, before signing some gloves and taking photos for talented fighter.
