VOTE: The Liffey Crane Hire Irish Boxer of the Month – MAY
Slightly later than usual, it’s time for the May edition of the Liffey Crane Hire Irish Boxer of the Month.
With three fight cards in Ireland and big title bouts overseas, there are SIX boxers up for the monthly gong.
The period of consideration for this award is the Month of May only – obviously – meaning Katie Taylor, Mickes Donoghue, and Chloé Gabriel are not nominated as their big wins came on June 1st – but watch out next month!
So, without further ado, the nominees are…
Tyrone McCullagh
The Derry super bantam moved into world title contention with the first defence of his WBO European rankings belt, easing past Spanish champ Alvaro Rodriguez in Newcastle.
Sean McComb
The Turf Lodge light welter set a massive marker with a first round stoppage win over tough Czech Miroslav Serban at the Ulster Hall.
Marco McCullough
In a make-or-break all-Irish clash, the Shankill super feather sensationally stopped Declan Geraghty at the Ulster Hall with a Knockout of the Year contender in Round 3.
Ryan Burnett
The Antrim Road bantam returned to the ring following his horror injury and looked sharp in demolishing Jelbirt Gomera.
Cathy McAleer
The Belfast bantam made a huge statement with a stoppage win over tough Romanian Cristina Busuioc at the Europa Hotel.
Joe Fitzpatrick
The Divis lightweight made his long awaited comeback and scored a dominant grudge match second round win over West Belfast rival Stephen Webb.
