VOTE: Carl Frampton nominated for RTÉ SPOTY

He may have been overlooked by the BBC, but Carl Frampton [23(14)-0] has been nominated for the RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year.

The Belfast man is part of a twelve-person shortlist for the gong.

A stellar 2016 saw ‘The Jackal’ unify his IBF super bantamweight title with Scott Quigg’s WBA belt in Manchester in February before moving up in weight and taking Leo Santa Cruz’s WBA featherweight strap in July. Since then ‘The Jackal’ has agreed to face Santa Cruz in a rematch which will take place in Las Vegas on January 28th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Joining Frampton on the shortlist for the glitzy awards ceremony in Dublin on December 17th are:
Seamus Callanan – (Hurling)
Eoghan Clifford – (Cycling)
Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal (Cycling)
Brian Fenton – (Football)
Denise Gaule – (Camogie)
Jamie Heaslip – (Rugby)
Daryl Horgan – (Soccer)
Conor McGregor – (Mixed Martial Arts)
Annalise Murphy – (Sailing)
Paul O’Donovan – (Rowing)
