Viva Cork! – Pro boxing show announced for Rebel County
A big show in Cork this summer has been announced.
New-to-the-game promoter Martin Horgan will run ‘Leeside Revolution’ at the Neptune Stadium on Saturday July 20th as boxing returns to the Rebel County for the first time in almost a decade.
Horgan is the man behind the popular ‘Siam Warriors’ Muay Thai fight series which is based in Cork and has been a staple at the Neptune.
The bill will be headlined by Macroom light welter Noel Murphy [13(2)-1(0)-1], with a full undercard to be announced.
The New York-based southpaw scored a dominant win over Dublin welter John Joyce last time out and will be looking to build on this following a tough 2018.
It was just last month when young Dripsey pro James Power [4(4)-0] outlined his desire to box at home and he is one of many from the county that could feature. Vladimir Belujsky, Tommy McCarthy, and Dean O’Connell would all be hopeful of spots – although Mike Perez and Spike O’Sullivan both have bigger things on the agenda, currently.
The last pro show to take place in Cork was ran by Brian Peters way back in June 2010 and featured O’Sullivan, Perez, WIllie Casey, Alexei Collado, Luis Garcia, and Andy Murray.
In 2018 boxing outside of Dublin and Belfast proved extremely successful, with atmospheric shows with huge local support taking place in Castlebar and Waterford – and a comeback card in Ireland’s third-biggest city has always been hoped for.
Further details will be reported once they emerge.
