VIP sparring for McCarthy and McKenna ahead of Feile Fight Night

TOMMY McCarthy and Tyrone McKenna have been preparing for their big Feile Fight night clashes by sparing VIPs, VIP Promotion fighters that is.

The Belfast buddies and gym mates have made the trek to Manchester to get some quality work in ahead of their big clashes on August 1.

McCarthy looks set to face the 10 ten British fighter Courtney Fry, whilst McKenna is hoping for a step up in class on the festival card.

In preparation ‘Big Tommy’ has been sparring undefeated Paul Drago while McKenna has helping Anthony Colqohoun prepare for his British title eliminator.

“Tommy has spent the past week in Manchester as a guest of VIP’s Steve Wood at Bobby Rimmers gym in Manchester,” manager Pat Magee explained.

“He has been sparring Paul Drago and Jack Massey and impressed in the whole exercise watched by a variety of boxing personalities including the Sky pundit, coach and former British, Irish and European champion Jamie Moore.

“Tommy’s gym mate Tyrone McKenna also enjoyed the trip sparring with Anthony Colqohoun an unbeaten light welterweight who later this month boxes in an eliminator for the British title against former champion David Barnes.

“He certainly impressed Moore as he has been invited back again to spar Tommy Coyle who boxes the Olympic golden boy Luke Campbell on the Sky headliner on 1st Aug in their hometown of Hull.”

This is the type of experience the two boys need in the build up to their own appearances on the Feile Big Fight and further enhances their growing reputations as future stars in the making. We hope to have an announcement on an opponent for Tyrone in the coming days.”
