Former Irish light welterweight champion Frankie Gavin [22(13)-2(1)] has a massive hometown derby on October 17th. The Birmingham-born man challenges local rival Sam Eggington [16(9)-2(0)] for ‘The Savage’s’ British and Commonwealth titles.
Gavin, a former World Amateur Champion, won the Irish belt back in 2010 with a fifth round stoppage of Michael Kelly – before he went on to clear up the British scene
The skilled southpaw was unsuccessful earlier this year when he challenged for Kell Brook’s IBF title and stated his intention after the bout to move back down to light welterweight – but a fight with 21 year old Eggington was too good to turn down.
With the bout now just over two weeks away, hype is starting to build for the so-called Battle of the Brum, and Matchroom Promotions have put together a spine-tingling featurette on the pair.
