Victor Rabei aiming to enjoy fight with a “mad man”

Victor Rabei [1(0)-0] was extremely impressive in his professional debut during the Summer and the Dublin light welter is hoping to look even better in fight number two.

The Moldovan-born fighter appears on the Red Corner Promotions ‘Champions Elect’ bill at the National Stadium in Dublin on Saturday night looking to build on a statement-making first fight.

Back in June Rabei was handed a debut test against game away fighter Chris Adaway and scored a 39-37 four-round points win, showing guts and guile in equal measure.

With the debut out of the way, ‘The Chisinau Cyclone’ now wants to improve further.

Analysing himself ahead of the return to the ring, Rabei told Irish-Boxing.com that “I want to be a bit busier in this fight and connect with more shots, stay relaxed and showcase my abilities. I was a little tense in my first fight, so I’ll try enjoy this one a lot more.”

“The camp has gone fantastic, we’ve accomplished all the goals we have set out. I’m fitter and stronger than I was in my last fight”.

Extremely well supported on his debut, Rabei is motivated to impress again and described how “I got an amazing response from the crowd and the fans that bought tickets of me! I’m expecting them to be louder in my second fight.”

“I’m blessed to have the support I have, so I want to put on a show for them!”

On Saturday Rabei will take on Michael Mooney [8(3)-37(4)-1]. A journeyman who can spring an upset when ‘up’ for a fight, the Worcester fighter will be looking to win in his first contest outside Britain.

The St Michael’s Inchicore prospect outlined how “I haven’t looked too much into his record. I know he fought Josh Leather and got beaten.”

“His nickname is ‘Mad Man,’ so I’m expecting a mad man to show up, a tough go-forward fighter – which should give me more opportunities to land big clean shots.”

“I’ll take the fight round by round – but if the opportunity to stop Mooney shows up, I’ll make sure to make the most of it.”
