Anthony Upton’s duck egg was cracked in Walsall last night.
The former Irish International and Holy Family puncher took on Joe Hughes for the vacant English light welterweight title, but ultimately failed to buckle the strap around his waist.
Upton got up of the floor in both the sixth and seventh rounds against a fighter who now has 13 wins to his name, and made the final bell.
However, come judges scorecard time he lost 93-96. 93-97 and 91-97.
