UPTON ADDED TO WARREN BILL IN MANCHESTER

UNBEATEN light-welterweight prospect Anthony Upton has been added to Francis Warren’s show at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on June 14.

The Ricky Hatton-trained 22-year-old was due to appear on a show at the Troxy in London that same night, but the promotion has been pulled due to it clashing with England’s World Cup opener against Italy.

Upton, an Irish international as an amateur, is now based in Hyde, so this Manchester show gives him the opportunity to take his perfect record to four fights a little closer to home.

“I’m delighted that Francis Warren has agreed to put Anthony on his upcoming show,” four-time world boxing champion Ricky Hatton said.

“We want to keep him as busy as possible and it’s great that all the training he’s done for a June 14 date isn’t going to waste.

“Everyone that’s seen Anthony in the gym since he joined us has been impressed with him and I think a lot of people will leave the venue saying ‘wow, didn’t that young Irish kid look good’.

“We haven’t got an opponent for him as yet, but with the way he’s been training, I think he’ll be more than ready for whoever is put in front of him on fight night.”

Next Saturday’s show also features Hughie Fury, Ryan Doyle, Jimmy Kilrain Kelly, Kofi Yates, Denton Vassell, Artaf Ali, debutant Sean Ben Mulligan and the return of Matthew Hall.
