Ulster side beat Germany TWICE during successful trip
An Ulster select are en-route home today following a training camp in Germany that featured two fight nights, and two wins, against their hosts.
The team trounced Germany 6-1 in Heidelberg on Saturday November 17th before following this up with a 5-2 win on Friday just gone.
The Ulster line-up included last year’s Irish u22 champ Dylan Duffy at lightweight, Ulster middleweight runner-up Fearghus Quinn, Irish Elite runner-up Caoimhin Ferguson at light welter, underage star Kane Tucker at light heavy, big man Dee Sullivan at heavy and two guests – Dubliner Jordan Moore at bantam and Samoan light heavyweight Ato Plodzicki-Faoagali, a Commonwealth silver medallist that has been training with the team the past month.
On night one there were unanimous decision wins for Moore, Duffy, Ferguson, Tucker, Plodzicki-Faoagali, and Sullivan against a split-decision loss for Quinn.
On night two there were wins for Duffy, Quinn, Plodzicki-Faoagali, Tucker, and Sullivan, while Moore and Ferguson lost out to reigning German champions Hamza Touba and Wladislaw Baryshnik respectively.
Tucker’s win was, especially, impressive. The Newry 18-year-old defeated young German star Oronzo Birardi, avenging a previous defeat to the European Junior champion last year.
