U.S. viewing figures released for Frampton v Santa Cruz II

U.S. viewing figures for the Carl Frampton v Leo Santa Cruz WBA featherweight title rematch have been released.

The Belfast man lost his title to Santa Cruz at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night in a fight that was watched Stateside by a peak audience of 642,000.

The Showtime-broadcast fight brought in an average of 587,000 viewers.

Both of these numbers are improvements on the viewing numbers which tuned into the first fight last July in New York, where the peak and average numbers were 549,000 and 480,000 respectively.

These numbers are also superior than those of the James DeGale v Badou Jack IBF-WBC super middleweight unification earlier this month which attracted an average viewership of 454,000.

The viewing figures were undoubtedly hindered by a card ran concurrently on rival network HBO. This show at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in California saw Miguel Berchelt dethrone WBC super featherweight champion Francisco Vargas via 11th round knockout. The fight brought in peak numbers of 549,000 and an average of 497,000.
