Two Irish fighters in World Championships action today

 

After a day without any Irish action in the ongoing World Championships two Team Ireland combatants climb through the ropes today.

Regan Buckley and Wayne Kelly will be looking to progress into the last 32 of the prestigious tournament as they compete inĀ Ekaterinburg, Russia.

St Teresa’s man, Buckley will have his first ever major International flyweight fight.

The European Games bronze medallist takes onĀ Aldoms Suquor of Indonesia in a 52kg last 64 clash.

Portlaoise BC’s Kelly will also be in action. The Westmeath man and recentĀ Trestin Memorial Odessa Multi Nations medal winner takes onĀ Matthew Alexander of Trinidad & Tobago in the same stage, but in the 63kg weight class.Ā 

The pair will be hoping to join Michael Nevin andĀ Kiril Afanasev in the last 32 of the contest. Kane Tucker is the only Irish fighter to have been eliminated thus far.Ā 

Boxing begins at 11am (Irish time) each morning.
