Tough opponent named for Joe Fitzpatrick
21 year old Joe Fitzpatrick [4(4)-0] will face something of a step-up in class in his fifth professional contest this coming Thursday.
The undefeated Belfast lightweight fights at the York Hall on a Frank Warren-promoted show, and a tough opponent has been named for ‘The Dragon.’
Fitzpatrick will take on Sunderland’s Jordan Ellison [5(1)-4(0)] at the famous Bethnal Green venue and will need to be firing on all cylinders to avoid being another upset on the Englishman’s ledger.
This year Ellison has defeated up-and-comers Ediz Hussein [then 6(0)-0-1], Louis Fielding [then 6(1)-1(0)], and Chris Conwell [then 7(1)-0]. The 20 year old also has Irish previous having beaten Ben Mulligan on his debut, and gave Jono Carroll a tough scrap in his most recent fight (a 60-55 loss on the Crolla-Barosso undercard).
The challenge posed by Ellison will be welcomed by Commonwealth Games silver medalist Fitzpatrick who was left frustrated after his last bout in February where he recorded a facile first round stoppage win over Ruslans Berdimuradovs.
