Tough next opponent for Tyrone McCullagh
Derry featherweight Tyrone McCullagh [4(3)-0] will take a step up in class for his next fight this October in Belfast.
White Chocolate fights over six rounds for the first time on the MHD Promotions show at the Europa Hotel on October 8th and will face the toughest opponent of his short career.
The 25 year old southpaw will take on Nicaraguan Edwin Tellez [11(5)-25(3)-5] in just over six weeks time.
The Central American has had a busy career since turning pro five years ago, facing some top level European opposition. In his last two fights Tellez had gone the distance with Belgium’s recent European bantamweight champion Stephane Jamoye, and has also lasted the distance with former IBF bantamweight champion Stuart Hall. Other boxers who have failed to stop the tough nut include EU flyweight champions Vincent Legrand and Angel Moreno.
One man who has succeeded in stopping Tellez is European, British, and Commonwealth featherweight champ Josh Warrington, who brought a halt to their bout in Germany last year at the end of the fifth round.
The matchmaking is some encouraging progression from McCullagh who is aiming to contend for domestic titles in 2017.
