Tommy McCarthy [13(6)-2(1)] has taken his stoppage defeat to Richard Riakporhe well, evoking the old boxing adage that ‘one punch can change a fight’.
The Belfast cruiserweight was beaten by the Londoner in their WBA Inter-Continental title fight last night in Peterborough, live on Sky Sports.
McCarthy began the fight well but was stopped in the fourth having shipped some big shots from the noted puncher.
The fight was seen as a break-out opportunity for the Lenadoon stylist who has endured a tough last two years but it was not to be his night.
McCarthy would take the defeat would good grace and updated his followers on social media afterwards.
The 28-year-old explained how “I just got caught sleeping in round four, I felt like I was winning the fight, I was, I just got caught.”
“Tonight wasn’t my night! A lapse in concentration and I got caught, fuck sake.”
“That’s boxing, sorry everyone. People, stick with me, and I’ll stick with you.
“I’m so happy to have my family around after to give me support and encouragement! I love you guys!”
