The Steve Collins Warrior of the Year winner up first for Gary Sweeney

Galway’s Cruiseweight prospect Gary Sweeney has been handed a tough debut task.

The former Amateur heavyweight champion will taken on Belfast’s favourite Ugandan Moses Matovu when he trades leather for the first time on the February 6 Clash of the Clans card.

Matovu, who picked up the Irish-Boxing.com Steve Collins Warrior of the Year award this year, is something of an Irish fight favourite.

The journey man guarantees entertainment and has upset potential when he is in the mood.

The Ugandan who fights out of Belfast has only won  five of 73 fights and hasn’t had his hand raised since 2014 20 plus fights ago. However, he has only been stopped seven times in 64 reverses and almost certainly guarantees Sweeney rounds.

Matovu has also provided debut opposition for Irish fighters such as Nail Kennedy, Stephen Reynolds, David Maguire and Conal Carmicheal.
