The Rock ready to lay the smackdown on worlds top lightweights
‘THE ROCK’ Stephen Ormond is ready to lay the smack down on the best lightweights in Europe or indeed the world after bulking up in the gym.
Ormond sent out a massive statement of intent stopping , a fighter who went the distance with John Murray, frustrated Kevin Mitchell and holds a win over Daniel Rasilla, who challenged Paul McCloskey for the light welterweight title of Europe, in five rounds.
The Clondalkin fighter’s right hand finish was one of a number of impressive knockouts on the card and he revealed after he has been working on adding one punch power and patience to a busy style.
The recent run of impressive wins has also given Ormond the confidence to state he is moving into World class territory.
“He was very awkward and dangerous with those big swinging punches. I slowed it down and showed more patience. I know I am punching now so it was just a matter of time. We have been practicing that right hand in the gym. I am happy with that knock out. It was great to get a knock out on such a big card.
“I am up there with the best lightweights. I am getting better with every fight and I am getting more patient in the ring. I believe I am up there. I will be back in the gym Monday morning and I will be looking to improve again.”
The Celtic Gym fighter also revealed he has been working on getting bigger in the gym in a bid to get bigger in the boxing world.
“We changed the conditioning for this fight. Working with Brian Guy I am trying to get bigger. It’s all slow and big work. I am not the tallest lightweight in the world so I want to get bigger.”
