Team Wake will demand Frampton fight the Japanese fighter and not Quigg next

Shingo Wake’s team are demanding Belfast favourite Carl Frampton fulfill his mandatory obligations and fight the Japanese fighter next according to reports in Japan.

Wake is next in line for ‘The Jackal’s’ IBF super bantamweight title and Frampton must defend against him or vacate the title.

Wake isn’t a name to make Frampton or Cyclone Promotions quake, but the undefeated star of Irish boxing is keen to settle his differences with Scott Quigg next and has been in talks re a potential pay per view grudge match.

If that bout does come to fruition it will most likely take place early next year leaving Frampton time to face his mandatory late this year. However, a world title fight before such a clash that is mega in the eyes of the fans and both Quigg and Frampton’s accountants is not ideal.

The ideal would be for Cyclone Promotions and Matchroom to pay step aside money to the soon to be challenger, but the head of Kyeoi Promotions, Keiichiro Kanehira, has said that they are doing everything in their power to ensure Frampton has to trade leather with Wake next.

Kanerhira has also stated preliminary talks have taken place-and if negotiations with Quigg break down you can expect to see Wake in the ring with the champ next- and despite America being muted as a potential venue the Kyeoi boss says he will push for the fight to take place in Japan.
