Taylor to fight in Bray three times next month

World lightweight champion Katie Taylor will continue her preparations for the AIBA World Women’s Championships with bouts in her home town of Bray next month.

The European champion will meet Sandra Brugger of Switzerland, Cindy Orain of France and Ingrid Egner of Norway over three nights at the Royal Hotel in Bray on 24/25/26 February.

Taylor’s coach and dad Peter said that the triple header would play its part in their preparations for the AIBA World Women’s Championships in China in May.

Crucially, the World Championships, where Taylor will be aiming for her fourth gold medal in-a-row, will act as the only  Olympic qualifier for female boxers.

“I don’t think is has ever been done before (having three bouts in three nights) and it is something that Katie is really looking forward to this, especially in Bray,” he said.
Meanwhile Taylor scooped the 2011 amateur boxer of the year award on the influential women’s boxing website WBAN. This is the fifth time that Taylor has claimed this award.
