Taylor makes it two wins from two over the weekend
Olympic champion Katie Taylor sealed her second victory of the weekend in Kerry on Saturday night.
The AIBA World No. 1 ranked lightweight beat Sweden’s Pernilla Gustavsson on a unanimous decision on an eleven-bout Trojan BC hosted show at a sold-out Listowel Community Centre in the Kingdom.
Saturday’s victory arrived 24 hours after the five-time AIBA World Elite champion beat Gustavsson’s compatriot Agnes Alexiusson in her hometown of Bray.
The weekend’s double header is part of Taylor’s preparations for next month’s inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The six-time European Elite champion has been named on a 12-strong Irish boxing squad, which is comprised of eleven current Irish Elite champions, for the Continental Olympiad in the Azeri capital.
“Katie was absolutely brilliant and she performed excellently, said Maria Brennan, Secretary of the Trojan BC.
“It was a very enjoyable evening and Katie received a fantastic reception. The Trojan boxing club would like to wish the Irish team the very best of luck at the European Games next month.”
