Sweeney’s French exam cancelled

22 January 2009 – By Cormac Campbell

Mayos Michael Sweeney has been pulled off the undercard of Cyrill Thomas and Cristobal Cruzs IBF featherweight title clash on February 14.

Speaking exclusively to irish-boxing.com, Sweeneys promoter Tommy Egan said that a late demand for the weight limit to be reduced from light-heavyweight to super-middle for the clash with Frenchman Tony Averlant had prompted the withdrawal.

At such short notice it wouldnt be safe to lose that kind of weight, he said.

We have already arranged for Michael to fight in Illinois on March 20 on a St Patricks weekend show out there.
