Sweeney impresses Steward

So impressed is legendary boxing trainer Manny Steward with Irish Cruiserweight Michael Sweeney that he is trying to secure Stateside bouts for the Mayo man.

Kronk Gym founder, Steward brought in recent Irish title challenger, Sweeney to spar former WBC and IBO light heavyweight world Chad Dawson, as he prepares to fight, Adrian Diaconu in his first fight since losing his titles. By all accounts The Storm, who is a one time Wladimir Klitschko sparring foe, has slightly blown Steward away with his work against the former world champ and as result the Kronk boss is trying to secure fights for Sweeney.

Manny called and asked me to spar Chad Dawson. He said he was impressed with what I did when i was in camp with Wladimir and wanted the same for Chad in his training champ. To be honest the spars we have had are 50/50. Manny has been very complimentary and says I am getting better and better everyday. He is now working getting me some fights, Sweeney said.

Sweeney might be ensuring the quality pre big fight sparring Dawson needs, but the westerner is adamant he is getting as much as he is giving from the experience. The former Banner Promotions fighter also claims Andy Lee looks in great shape ahead of Wednesdays fight.

“I am in one of the best training camp possible. Money couldnt buy the sparring you get here. I am learning everyday and its beneficial to me too. As well as sparring Dawson I have been in with Andy Lee. He is looking very sharp and he is in great shape. I am confident he will win Wednesday.
