Sutcliffe will be flooring bigger names now his hands are sorted says Magee

WELTERWEIGHTS across Europe won’t be able to handle the power of Phillip Sutcliffe Jr now his hand issues are behind him, warns manager Pat Magee.

The 26 year old’s infamous ‘Succo Punch’ has been enough to secure him six knock out wins in eight fights since he turned over. Indeed every fighter the former Senior Champion has faced as has paid a visit to the canvas at some stage.

However, the talented and big hitting former National Stadium favourite’s progress has been hampered by the same hands that serve his so well. Ask anyone that has faced the Crumlin BC graduate and they would argue he has hands of stone, but in fact those hands have proved somewhat brittle.

Sutcliffe has had to take breaks between fights due hand injuries and it has prevented him from stringing a run of quick fire wins together. He has still managed to secure a European ranking and Pat Magee told Irish-boxing.com all his hand issues are now behind him and he will move quickly toward titles.

“You saw Philip in his last fight we gave him a big test against a good French man, who is number 15 in Europe. He performed well and if he hadn’t hurt his hand he probably would have done it inside the distance.

“It is significant that each and every time Philip has boxed the opponents have been on the floor,” said the man who guided Brian Magee to the top.

“I think I have got his hands sorted out now and I think he will start keeping them on the floor and he can move along quickly.

“Boxers all suffer with hand trouble, but I had him at the specailst in Manchester and at the Sports Clinic in Santry and I am assured that what has been wrong has been mended and fingers crossed it doesn’t reappear.

“Phil is in the European ratings at number 5 and I can move him up quickly.”
