Sutcliffe Jr secures big fight on Chisora Vs Pulev undercard in Germany
Philip Sutcliffe Jr will have his biggest test of his pro career on the undercard of the Dereck Chisora Vs Kubrat Pulev vacant EBU (European) heavyweight title fight in Hamburg, Germany on May 7th.
Highly rated super lightweight Sutcliffe will face a big step up in class when he takes on Swedish 2012 London Olympian and current European number two Anthony Yigit.
Yigit, a Sauerland promoted fighter, is an undefeated and highly rated southpaw with a record of 16(7)-0-1. He will take on the Irishman in an eight-round contest on the undercard of the German TV and Sky Sports broadcast Heavyweight title bout.
Sutcliffe Jr, who has recently been sparring with World Champion Anthony Crolla in Manchester ahead of his title defence against Ismael Barroso, is currently in camp with coach Bernardo Checa in Fuengirola, Spain where he will be based ahead of his fight in Germany.
Speaking to Irish-boxing.com Sutcliffe’s manager Pat Magee siad he was excited to have secured the fight for his charge but that it was a big step up in class.
“This is a fight we have been looking for for a long time and I’m very happy to have secured the date on such a big card. This fight is a step up for Philip and it is a must win fight if we are to secure him a European title fight in the future. Yigit is expected to fight the winner of the Lenny Daws / Ruben Nieto re-match so if Philip can do the business here he could be in line for a shot at the champion.”
