Stronger Jono Carroll vows to make World Title breakthrough
Jono Carroll [16(3)-1(0)-1] claims he now knows what it takes to progress from a world-level fighter to a world champion.
‘King Kong’ is set to fight on the DAZN and Sky Sports broadcast bill at the Centro de Usos Múltiples in Hermosillo, Mexico this coming weekend.
The recent world title challenger will feature on night headlined by pound-for-pound star Juan Francisco Estrade defending his WBC and Ring Magazine super flyweight titles against Dewayne Beamon.
Carroll is back in action against Eleazar Valenzuela [20(16)-11(2)-4] and following his spirited world title challenge in Philadelphia against slick IBF super featherweight king Tevin Farmer in March.
The charismatic Dubliner, who won praise for his performance against a fighter who also holds a win over James Tennyson, is adamant he proved he was world level with his ‘American Idol’ performance – and is equally as confident he is now aware of what is needed to make the next step.
“I 100% proved against Farmer that I belong at world level. I just need to be a bit more mature and use my boxing brain more. It all comes down to experience and keeping busy,” said Carroll before stressing what learnt from the defeat.
“I learned that at world level, you can’t just come forward all the time trying to break someone’s heart. You’ve got to use your head more and I can do that.”
I appreciate all the love and support I'm getting and I promise I'll be back better than ever…
I want to make everyone proud and bring a world title back to Ireland in the next year or 2 that's for sure pic.twitter.com/zIqKbM97rl— jono carroll (@jono_carroll) July 28, 2019
The infectious Carroll, who lives in Spain and speaks some of the language, is likely to be well-received in Mexico.
Before, during, and after his fight with Farmer, Carroll won fans.
The southpaw former Prizefighter winner isn’t dwelling on the defeat but he is learning from it.
“I couldn’t care less about a defeat – it’s all about what you do afterwards that makes the difference.”
“Since the Farmer fight, I’ve been working on my power more. I’ve done a good deal of strength and conditioning work to help me improve on that.”
