Strong opponent confirmed for David Oliver Joyce’s second pro fight this weekend
Rio Olympian David Oliver Joyce [1(1)-0] will continue along the fast track to pro success this weekend in England.
The Mullingar lightweight boxes on an MTK London card on Saturday night at the Brentwood Centre in Essex.
Joyce’s opponent here will be Spanish-based Nicaraguan Lesther Cantillano [3(2)-5(0)], and the pair will face off over six rounds.
The Central American relocated to Europe at the start of the year where he has taken on a role as a high-level, durable journeyman.
In this time he has gone the six-round distance with former EU featherweight champion and Rio Olympian Carmine Tommasone, former European super featherweight Devis Boschiero, and Italian light welterweight title challenger Luca Maccaroni, as well as going eight with former European bantamweight champion Stephane Jamoye.
Joyce debuted last month in Belfast, scoring an impressive second round stoppage of Hungarian Gabor Kovacs, and is taking on Cantillano at an earlier stage in his career than most.
The triple-EU gold medalist, who has six and eight round experience from AIBA Pro Boxing, has spent a portion of this camp sparring with friend and old amateur rival Carl Frampton as The Jackal prepares for his Belfast homecoming fight with Andres Gutierrez next week.
Also featuring on the MTK London card this coming Saturday will be Johnny Coyle, Dave Allen, John Wayne Hibbert, Tyler Goodjohn, Sunny Edwards, Tey Lynn Jones, Idris Hill, Ryan Maycock, Kaan Hawes, Lerrone Richards, Jonny Phillips and Harjeet Singh.
