Steve Collins wins in Maine fight of the weekend
Steve Collins Jr grabbed win number eight tonight in Maine.
The Dublin light heavyweight was in action at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, and outpointed Mexican veteran Jose Humberto Corral.
Fighting against a career-best opponent, ‘The Wolfound’ scored a 60-54 victory in the six-round bout.
The crowd-pleasing panto villain Corral made it awkward at times for Collins, but the 26 year old showed a patience and maturity that belied his lack of amateur experience.
The win sees Collins improve his unbeaten record to 8(3)-0-1, while Corral drops to 19(12)-22(9).
The ever-improving Irishman will now go straight back into training under Paschal Collins at Celtic Warriors Gym as he looks to move closer to the light heavyweight limit ahead of his next bout, which will most likely be in September.
