Steve Collins backs Spike to emulate his Eubank success

Steve Collins has believes like he did 20 years ago Gary’ Spike’ O’Sullivan can beat a Eubank.

The Celtic Warrior became the first man to defeat then WBO super middleweight World champ Chris Eubank in Cork 20 years ago and repeated the feat in a rematch to secure his status as fighting Irish legend.

Collins believes O’Sullivan, who is trained by his brother Pascal, will emulate his Eubank success by stopping Chris Eubank Jr on the Bad Intentions card in London tonight.

“I think Spike can handle him better than Chris can handle Spike,” Collins told The Irish Post. “So I’m predicting a win for Spike.

“I can see this fight being won inside the distance – both guys are going to come to really fight,” added Collins, whose brother Paschal trains O’Sullivan in Dublin’s Celtic Warrior gym.

“I think Spike will be better prepared for the fight because he’s got a great training camp and he’s got very wise coaches.

“I see him landing some of his big power shots on Chris Eubank, which Eubank hasn’t experienced before. But the experience Spike has can be used to his advantage.

“He’s going to be a lot fitter and has to be ready to knock him out in every round.”
