Stephen Ormond excited ahead of Murphy’s Debut

‘The Rock’ Stephen Ormond is ready to make a big splash on the other side of the pond. The Dublin lightweight has signed with Murphy’s Boxing and makes his debut for the outfit on October 10th in Boston against local fighter Agustine Mauras [6(3)-1(0)-3].

The show, headlined by Danny O’Connor, will be part of Al Haymon’s ‘Premier Boxing Champions’ venture and Ormond spoke recently to the Irish Post about the opportunities this entails.

Excited to be heading to the U.S. East Coast, the Clondalkin man explained that “Boston is a great fighting city, it has a big boxing following.”

“This will be my second time going over there.”

On his preparations, ‘The Rock’ is leaving no stone unturned, noting that “I’ve been sparring with a few lads and I’m doing a few rounds with Ricky Burns, and then back home with the likes of Jono Carroll and a few bigger lads too.”

The 32 year old, who has World title aspirations, knows the enormity of his new move, with his upcoming fight due to be screened stateside on NBC Sports. The Dubliner reasoned reasoning that “it’s going to be on Premier Boxing and that’s my first fight with them, which is great, it’s brilliant exposure, which is exactly what I want.”
