Statement-making stoppage win for Cacace in Wigan

Anto Cacace tonight became the first man to ever stop the notably-durable Jamie Quinn – and he did it in style.

The Belfast super feather, the reigning Celtic champion, needed one round to finish the bout at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan.

The scheduled six rounder was the Andersonstown man’s first fight back after eleven months out, as well as his first bout under new trainer Brian Magee, but Cacace showed no signs of ring rust or tentativeness in a destructive display in which Quinn retired at the end of the opening round with a suspected broken jaw.

The chief support on the night to the BBBoC Central Area welterweight title fight between Sean Lewis and Adam Ismail, Cacace certainly made an impression on the VIP Promotions card.

The win sees The Apache move to 14(7)-0 as he years up for his British title fight in December against the winner of next week’s clash between Andy Townend and Martin J Ward.

The shell-shocked Quinn drops to 2(0)-29 (1).

Video of the stoppage will be available tomorrow.
