Spike secures title shot on massive Degale v Dirrell card
GARY ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan has been afforded a massive chance to improve his ranking and his fan base on May 23.
The Cork middleweight has secured a shot at the NABA middleweight title and will challenge for the vacant strap live on the undercard of the DeGale-Dirrell undercard.
The bout will also be broadcast live on NBC Stateside and on Sky Sports across Britain and Ireland. Melvin Betancourt will provide the opposition in the title fight that offers passage into the WBA top ten.
The Dominican Republic native has won 29 of his 30 fights with 23 of those wins coming by way of knock out, but steps up for light middleweight for this TV clash.
Murphy’s boxing puncher ‘Spike’ had hoped to fight Chris Eubank Jr on May 9, but elected against taking on the English fighter due to options put in the contract by Frank Warren. However claiming the NABA might see him move into mandatory for Eubank’s WBA Interim strap, meaning that fight can be made as a once off.
