Spike O’Sullivan – ‘The fans are on my side, I will knock Eubank out’
A sign of things to come ahead of their London middleweight showdown on December 12th, Gary O’Sullivan has lambasted Chris Eubank Jr, labelling the Brighton boxer “an arrogant guy and he’s living off his father’s name. I don’t think he’s as good as his father and he’s got a big high profile.”
The Cork man gave his unfiltered thoughts to Sky Sports on the new Matchroom signing, hypotheising that “if he didn’t have the name Chris Eubank, he wouldn’t be where he is – no chance. If he was called Pat Murphy, he’d be nowhere near where he is now.”
The charismatic Leesider has laughed off any retaliatory mind games from the Englishman, explaining that “I find it very funny. He’s trying to belittle me, play me down and say he doesn’t know much about me. It’s obvious he knows about me – we both fought Billy Joe Saunders and I was on Sky Sports’ top knockouts of the year and I’ll be it on there this year when I knock him out.”
In fact, O’Sullivan believes that his support will outweigh that of the Matchroom boxer, with the Cork man reasoning that “I’ve fought in the UK a few times before. The first time was at The O2 and I won by knockout. I’ve had a lot of messages from UK fans who are rooting for me. I think the fans are definitely on my side.”
