Spike O’Sullivan in line for European title shot

Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan is line for a European title shot according to Pascal Collins.

The Cork middleweight suffered just the second defeat of his career when losing to Chris Eubank Jr on the Bad Intentions bill in London on Saturday, but Collins revealed another big fight is on the horizon.

When talking to Newstalk’s Off The Ball about the World title eliminator reverse the Celtic Warrior Gym boss said,

“We have already been notified his has been nominated to fight for a European title.”

Collins also revealed a shot at WBA World champion Danny Jacobs may still be on the cards despite the loss.

“The winner was to fight for a World title in Paddy’s Day in New York. Chris sustained a broken nose maybe he can’t do it and I also hear he has been nominated to fight for a British title so who knows Spike might get the call to fight (Danny Jacobs) for the World title. boxing is a funny thing,” Collins added.

Michel Soro is the current EBU champion and he is mandated to defend against Matteo Signani with the bout due to go purse bids, which suggest O’Sullivan could be in line to fight the WBO Continental strap.

Russian Artur Akavov is down as the current custodian of the WBO strap, but hasn’t defended in any of his last three clashes suggesting the title may be vacant.
