Sky viewers vote Frampton into pound-for-pound Top 10

Following on from the pound-for-pound lists of their pundits, Sky Sports opened the floor to their readers to vote for a World boxing pound-for-pound Top 10.

Voters were presented with the 13 boxers that featured across Carl Froch, Paul Smith, Glenn McCrory, and Johnny Nelson’s Top 10s and the list was compiled on an upvote/downvote basis.

As you may remember, Belfast’s WBA featherweight champion Carl Frampton was placed in the Top 10 by Froch (9), Smith (10), and McCrory (5). Additionally, former Irish and current WBA and WBO heavyweight king Tyson Fury featured in all four lists – McCrory (2), Smith (8), Froch (4), Nelson (7).

For the fans list, Frampton came in in FIFTH position – and was only an aggregate seven votes away from third spot.

Fury, who admittedly cares little for pound-for-pound lists and asserts that as heavyweight champion he is the best boxer in the World, did not make the top ten. The Gypsy King finished up in eleventh place.

The list was topped by Gennady Golovkin, which may be somewhat due to the all-encompassing build up for his PPV fight with Kell Brook – who was voted seventh – in London next Saturday.

Below is the final list alongside the aggregate positive votes received
1 – Gennady Golovkin (WBA, WBC, IBF middleweight) – 9,337
2 – Andre Ward (No title) – 5,519
3 – Sergey Kovalev (WBA, WBO, IBF light heavyweight) – 4,202
4 – Terence Crawford – (WBC, WBO light welterweight) – 4,199
5 – Carl Frampton (WBA featherweight) – 4,196
6 – Saul Alvarez (No title) – 3,847
7 – Kell Brook (IBF welterweight) – 3,497

12 – Gary Russell Jr (WBC featherweight) – (-7,300)
13 – Shinsuke Yamanaka (WBC bantamweight) – (-7,400)
