Sinky Says
8 January 2009 – By Neil Sinclair
I’m back in action four weeks this Saturday on the undercard of Stephen Haughian’s homecoming show in Lurgan on February 7.
I’m looking forward to it as well. I don’t have to make any championship weights so more than likely I’ll come in somewhere between welterweight and light-middle. I was training over Christmas but I had a bad flu that set me back a bit, but that’s all cleared.
I really started back last Monday and was working on pads last week, but this week the sparring has started in earnest. At the minute I’m sparring with Stephen Haughian and I’m sporting a black eye from him at the moment which is a testament to how well he is coming on as a professional. His left jab and his right hand have become very impressive.
After what Paul McCloskey achieved last year it has really spurred everybody on. As well as that it is great to have a champion in the gym because it means there will be more fights happening around here that more than likely we will be on the card. Also if big Rogie can beat Matt Skelton then there will be a big bill at the Kings Hall.
Hopefully on the back of this, myself and Stephen, who are not to far away from title shots ourselves, will get the opportunity. It really is up to us to keep fighting and keep winning and the doors should open up for us this year. I think I showed last time out that I can still compete in title class, so I would like to give the British title another crack. But its one step at a time and the next step is in February.
