Sinky Says
12 December 2008 – Neil Sinclair
Three of our boxers were in action last Saturday in England and overall it was fairly successful.
Paul McCloskey boxed beautifully to lift the British light-welterweight title against former European champion Colin Lynes. Looking back to my time as British champion, I dont think Paul will realise the scale of what he has achieved just yet. If I get a second opportunity to be champion I think I will appreciate it much more now!
Lynes is a class act and as a former European champion it just showed how good Paul was. It was also a good weekend for Martin Rogan. I was talking to Rogie earlier this week and he is over the moon, having beaten Audley Harrison. Hopefully he can get a title shot now, because he certainly deserves it.
It was disappointing for Oisin Fagan though. To pick up such a bad injury in the biggest fight of his career was cruel. But he shouldnt let that worry him. There is still plenty for him to fight for in the future.
This weekend is just as busy.
Jason McKay has gone over to England today for his Commonwealth title shot against Darren Barker so hopefully he can come home with the title. Brian Magee is also fighting for the British super-middleweight title so if the two of them can win it will be a great boost for the sport over here.
Its coming up to Christmas and hopefully Ill be back in action early in the New Year. Ive a bit of a cold at the minute so I havent been in training. But I think Ill have a fight organised by March at the latest.
I was talking about Christmas dinner earlier. Turkey is a very dry meat, so if Im having that Ill have to put lots of gravy on it!
