Shortty Carroll secures scrap with Scottish champ

Stephen Carroll‘s fight date in Scotland next month has got a whole lot bigger.

The Ballyfermot light welter was due to fight English journeyman Willie Warburton over four rounds on a Prospect Boxing card at the AlonA Hotel in Motherwell on Friday March 3rd.

That bill was set to be headlined by BBBoC Scottish 140lbs champion Eddie Doyle [18(3)-3(2)-1] who would defend his belt against Lee Redpath. However, Redpath has withdrawn from the fight and Carroll, on three weeks notice, has now been elevated to the headline slot and will face Doyle instead.

Shortty [5(1)-0] will now defend the Celtic Nations title he won against Jamesy Gorman in Belfast last November in an eight round bout.

Doyle won his Scottish title last year against Donegal’s Shaun McShane, a decision which was disputed. The 31 year old Glaswegian would then win the rematch – on a bill which featured Carroll on the undercard.

Back in 2014 Doyle challenged for the Commonwealth title, being stopped in a round by Willie Limond.
