Short-notice debut no problem for nerve-free Taylor McGoldrick
Taylor McGoldrick [1(0)-0] didn’t have long to prepare for his professional debut at the weekend, however the Coalisland super middleweight is a ring natural and claimed a first win.
The Tyrone fighter featured on the Ginley Promotions ‘Danger at The Devenish 2’ bill on Friday night, defeating tough Pole Michal Ciach over four rounds in Finaghy.
An aggressive start, followed by two rounds of patient stalking saw McGoldrick have enough banked to take a 39-37 win after a strong finish from the visitor.
The laid-back McGoldrick was happy with his first fight without the vest and reasoned how “he was coming to fight, he was no pushover.”
“I had to box and show my ability, and I think I did show that.”
“We only had a four week camp, I only signed pro in October. It was a bit of risk, but it paid off. I worked hard for this.”
“I’ve been inactive. The last time I fought was the Celtic Box Cup a year and a half ago. I was inactive for a while, I was just tired of the amateurs, so I turned pro.”
McGoldrick is settling into the pros well after linking up with Ger McManus and Dan Anderson in Belfast, joining a stable which also features BBBoC Celtic welterweight champ Paddy Gallagher.
The 23 year old described how “it’s different, but I think the style of it suits me better. I can punch, but I also want to show that I can box.”
“I rise to it. I love the atmosphere, I don’t feel nerves in the ring, I’m confident.”
“Dan and Ger are pushing me in training, we’re working well together. We’ve only had a short time together and I know when we’ve longer camps you’re going to see my best.”
