SHOCK return – Joe Ward registers under the radar first pro win
Shocks and Joe Ward’s pro career continued to go hand in hand.
One of, it not Ireland’s greatest ever amateur operators suffered surprise defeat when he punched for pay for the first time in his career in October 2019.
The amateur legend suffered a freak knee injury which sent him down and out in just the second round of his first paid fight at the famous Madison Square Garden Arena.
Stepping backwards away from game opening foe, light heavyweight Ward appeared to blow out his left knee and it would be ruled a TKO2 loss for the Moate man.
The dislocated kneecap left Ward worrying for his career and out for some time.
There was similar shock upon his return, as Ward claimed a win in Mexico today. [Saturday Dec 5]
The fight caught everyone off guard. There was faint rumour the Murphys Boxing, Lou DiBella, and Times Square Boxing mentored light heavy was close to a return.
