Shingo Wake wins the right to challenge for Frampton’s IBF title
Shingo Wake (19-4-2, 11 KOs) became mandatory challenger for the IBF super bantamweight World title currently in Carl Frampton’s possession with victory on Wednesday night.
The Japanese southpaw easily outpointed Thailand’s Mike Tawatchai (35-8-1, 21 KOs) in a Tokyo hosted world title eliminator.
Wake won by a 119-108, 119-108 and 118-109 decision to become next in line for IBF strap.
‘The Jackal’ has a voluntary defense against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. in El Paso, Texas, on July 18 and will be hoping for big name bouts after the Mexican. However, the IBF could push the case of Wake and he looks a future foe of the Belfast star.
