Shane McGuigan thinks Frampton-Santa Cruz rematch may be delayed
Trainer Shane McGuigan has admitted that he is not sure that the World title rematch between Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz will take place by the end of the year.
The Jackal defeated Santa Cruz in July in New York to claim the WBA featherweight title, and most would like to see the exciting fight play out again.
A contractually-mandated rematch between the pair looms, and initially it seemed that the repeat of the Fight of the Year candidate would take place in Las Vegas this December.
McGuigan, who scooped Trainer of the Year at the recent BBBoC awards, however isn’t confident that this will be the case and believes we may have to wait until 2017 to see the clash.
“Ideally it would [happen before the end of the year],” the young coach told IFL TV today at the George Groves v Eduard Gutknecht press conference.
“But I don’t know if it will, it could be next year, early next year.”
